The Hidden Side of a Leaf

December 1, 2008

I was shocked and saddened this morning while going through my bloglines to learn that the book blogging communities superstar Dewey from a Hidden Side of a Leaf passed away. Known for wonderful community builders such as Weekly Geeks and the 24 Hour read-a-thon, Dewey contributed so much to the world of book blogging.

I found on her site, in her own words, this little snippit of her life:

My main focus in blogging is community. I want to share my love for books with other bloggers, hear what they think of what they’re reading, and have lots of bookish fun. My non-review blog activities, such as the Bookworms Carnival, the Read-a-thon, Weekly Geeks, the challenges I host or join, and the contests and giveaways in my blog are all meant to build community.

I live with my husband, the most magically splendiferous being in this or any other universe; our son, who is also magnificent and wants you to know that he likes video games and reads sci-fi, Terry Pratchett, the Redwall series and graphic novels; and our two cats, Mimi and Minerva, who enjoy the long stretches of time that readers’ laps stay still. We all love books, though the cats mostly just scent-mark them so that cats whose humans receive them via Bookmooch or blog giveaways will know the books really belong to them.

Dewey, you will be missed so very much.

That’s a wonderful little snippet. Thanks for digging that up. I’ve been visiting everyone, reading tributes. I’m not sure I have the words to post about her; it still doesn’t seem real.

Reading that snippet makes it hard to believe that she’s gone. May she rest in peace. She truly will be missed.

I’m glad that you shared that piece from her blog. I was so taken aback by the news I can still hardly think about it. I also have apprecaiated reading others’ tributes; I feel my own words would not do justice to her wonderful spirit or the sorrow of this day.

That snipped says so much about who she was, doesn’t it? She will be terribly missed.
